A Date with Dad

This concept is the core of the latest book that I just finished. It is called Daddy Dates by Greg Wright. It is a shorter insightful book about how one Dad is trying to stay in touch with his daughters, because he wants to be a part of their lives. He is upfront about not having any credentials other than the fact that he is a father to FOUR daughters.

The book progresses discussing how he came up with the idea of Daddy dates all the way through “dating” your pre-schooler to high-schooler and not to forget to date the mom either :)! The stories are humorous and insightful. Greg states a few times that this isn’t the perfect key and that by doing this it doesn’t make the relationship “perfect”. It DOES make it a place of more trust and connection that can last into a daughter being a teenager and continuing a growing relationship instead of a more independent norm.

Daddy Dates is a book that while it won’t be read continually making its yearly appearance on my bed stand. I know it is a book that I would want to keep around. A reminder that even through struggles to make the effort into relationship with kids. Not just being the parent but having a keen interest seeing the world through their eyes.

One of my favorite things about the idea of daddy dates was that he would actually call up the daughter to arrange the date and everything that he did to make the dates individualized and memorable. If there would be any complaint it would be that sometimes it wasn’t serious enough, but then in looking at the bigger picture this wasn’t a psychological how to raise your kids in 5 steps book either. It is a fun look through a Dad’s eyes of how it has worked trying to raise and maintain relationships with his 4 daughters.
